This week, we learned all about the idea of nanotechnology. Even though the idea of nanotechnology is about studying very small things, it has become a very big topic in today's society. Nanotechnology deals with the manipulation of the atoms and molecules inside of everything that we know to exist. When studying nanotechnology, we are really trying to figure out how the smallest materials in our life are changing our life. This art-form is really important in our lives because it makes us realize that the smallest things in our lives make the biggest difference.
Specifically in this week's resources, I really took interest in the NOVA video, "Making Stuff: Smaller". In the video, it was explained that bee venom could be used as a treatment for cancer. It was really interesting to see this especially when the video also explained that the bee venom would be used on individual cancer cells. First of all, it was very intriguing to hear that bee venom could be a treatment for cancer. We are constantly trying to find a cure for one of the worst diseases mankind has ever seen. So, when i heard that bees could help us cure cancer, I was shocked. Also, it was really interesting to see that this venom could attack cells on the molecular level. To know that a cure for cancer could attack something so small was very eye-opening to see.
Nanotechnology has a really big impact on our lives today as we have been able to see the effects of nanotechnology right in front of our eyes. For example, when computers first came out, they were giant pieces of technology. Now, thanks to nanotechnology, we can carry them easily and even hold them in our hands in the form of a cell phone. Nanotechnology saves space, thus making our lives much easier.
